Found this in the Hillmarch Ogre quest
Can we please add some OOC text or something to this item that says that it is illegal to have these? Or that using the Neutralize Poison effect of the item consumes a soul and is an evil act that will shift your alignment?

I think that that is a foig thing and you are now obliged to do something ic about it.

For those that know bloodstones were a thing back in v3, but they are also a gemstone too so no one would guess until they activated the power whatever.

Should you know exactly what everything is before you use it? (are blur potions made from dead puppies etc?)

I mean finding out what they are made of IG is fine enough. Even finding out they are contraband is fine enough.

But having an item that gives a scripted align shift is probably a no-no.
Especially because these are farmable.

It should be clear this is something evil that will shift you. Not everyone will know what a bloodstone is. And also, it can be confusing because there is a gem called bloodstone in the vanilla game, and it is not our CoA evil soul-eating bloodstones.

Personally, I think items should not give alignment shifts.

If we do permit these sort of items, it should be 100% clear it will get your alignment shifted one way or another. Also, there should not only be items that shift you toward evil, but the other alignment too. However, this could be a can of worm we do not want to open.

I mean the evil bloodstones werent in this version afaik, so people wouldnt know about them id imagine

So it would be fair to assume the pendant would be a gem pendant with the normal gem bloodstone in it

this was not intentional
it's leftover from v3? v4? idk... when "bloodstones" were a thing and ; you used them and it shifted your alignment and did evil stuff
apparently, the script still exists that looks for the word "bloodstone" in the name of something and applies the effect regardless of what the thing is
when i made the pendant i did not know the scripts still existed - it's supposed to be a generic "bloodstone", not a soul-containing evil magic thing, because in canon bloodstones were used for "diseases or poisons to be removed".
the code just needs to be commented out of coa_spelloverride script. If no one gets to it before I'm done with my break, I'll do it.
if someone else does get to it, you need to comment out lines 339-347

It IS a pretty boss item though.
Love the 3 charges of neutralize poison because Antidote potions are a bit pricey, so that really is a godsend.

From what I am gathering, the whole "evil bloodstones thing are a source of necromantic power and consumes souls" or whatnot is a holdover from a previous version of the server? Meaning the very concept of such a thing is non-canon in THIS version of the server.

correct. no souls are consumed. just hold off on using the item until someone edits the script.
