Make brew potion and craft wand learnable In Game

+1 here.
-
I like this idea, may be worth considering it being bought via prestige points instead of gold.
-
I think the general consensus is that this is a good idea.

I like this.

Nah.
These are feats certain classes can take, and it is in place of learning other things.
This would end up making every caster class a crafter of wands and potions, instead of it being reserved for those who make the decision to sacrifice a powerful feat in it's place. This is fine.
-
Unless the idea was to make any class able to buy these feats, so fighters could brew potions.
In which case, there's no limit on supply, it would be mad to not buy these feats as a matter of course for any character, theres no player economy there, everyone makes their own stuff, why buy it from anyone when you can make it yourself for cost?
If it's casters only, then this is just giving casters two more feats. Ain't it?
-
Since we have recently many players onboard we can start some player economy.
The only question I would ask is how much time making a potion would take?
If you are imbuing, you are subjecting yourself to a gold and XP loss. If you are crafting, that needs lots of adventuring and try-catching.
Probably crafting is significantly more time-consuming. Whatever you can't do by a feat you most probably can do via crafting - for significantly more time though.I do agree that we are "feat starved" but I would say that if you invest in the "Brew Potion" or "Craft Wand" feat to "avoid" the time consuming crafting of potions and such (via alchemy, brewing, etc.), that's about just right to have one (or two) feat consumed for the amount of time you save!
I think the system we have now is perfectly alright for balance and needs no modification (at least in this scope) -

This system is in place on EfU and works very well. As long as you can cast the spell you can make the potion/wand of said spell (as long as wand/potions of it can be created). It's really good and a nice goldsink and encourages player economy.
-
I mean fighters could by them, they'd just be useless since they can't cast spells.
on EfU buying brew potion costs like 1000 and wand is about 10000.

This. It's just dumb.

This. We're not giving anyone more feats.
-
Efu has a different crafting system too (I think)
-
Not really. You can use the feats or brew through this one. There's other crafting systems for other things though. The potion system there is more refined, but the ways to get them are these 2 ways, buy it or use a feat. iirc it was done to stimulate player economy, which was crashing because players had stopped taking the feats for the most part.

Don't know if it's possible (or game breaking for that matter) but; Is it possible to group scribe scroll/ brew potion/ craft wand into one custom feat to reduce the number people need to take?
If so, since Wizards already get scribe, it could maybe reduce the XP cost of their scroll scribing ( but keeping the gold coat for that GP sink).
There are already some items in game that give feats. Clothing/ cloaks that grant awareness, belt for cleave and a prestige item that gives spell penetration spring to mind.
-
So the same as ours, more or less?
Whatever can kickstart the economy again, I am all for it. -

One thing we must NOT make cheaper and easier, is wizards scribing scrolls. Trust me >.>

@CitizenBane so EFU use the CNR crafting system? You can gather resources and brew potions from them?

No, i meant that they use a system where you can brew potions by using the feat.
-
You can gather resources and through a unique algorithm each character has their own recipe to create consumables, some of which may indeed be potions.
None of their crafting systems create 'equipment' unless it's late game stage stuff.
-
@SpiffyMeister sounds like a totally different system then.
-
What EFU does is allow player casters to purchase the knowledge and be taught by an NPC on how to brew potion- for if a player can learn blacksmithing in game, why can't they learn to brew potions?
Sure, for reasons of OOC balance, you might gate such things, but from a role play perspective, if I can learn to create blades with +1 dmg in acid/fire/cold/electric, why can't someone learn to brew potions?
