Verk Official Clergy

Topic: Verk/ Derrick Ampharen/ Official Clergy of Tymora
1: Human/Cleric/CG/9/ Derrick Ampharen
2: Official Clergy
3: I will make regular quest sendings to involve people in quests in search of treasure maps and use the maps to host regular treasure hunts aiming to do at least one per week, I will lead regular expeditions in search of knowledge to combat the threat of the chained tree to locations such as Deadwell in search of those connected to it like Boroch Gullch and Hanrek Underfold. I will protect Tymoras favoured status in the city by leading expeditions in search of the Kessemer armour mentioned in the temple, focussing on the Moonsea Ride and Stonelands as it is rumoured gnolls took it, Should it be found I will host a competition to give it to someone who can use it to protect the city -
Made him rewrite the first app he sent me to list out specifically what he'd do in game, even though I know he'll do stuff.

When a PC earns Official Clergy what does that include? Is it just the title? Legal benefits? Loot?

Verk — 10:04 AM
I think in the past its typically been backing from the church and like some armour or something, Like the shop sells two armours for Tymorans, -
Not ready for OC yet. Not seen enough cleric/push the faith yet.
OC gets custom loot, official backing from the NPCs (he speaks for the church in an official capacity without needing much NPC oversight)
Its a big deal, especially in Arabel.
-
@Salem He's doing a lot to push plots, he's not an exciting player - but he's doing a lot more than any other player right now to get people in game and playing.

My issue is, I think "official clergy" is a really vague and pointless title - but you see it as a big deal. Which means, we as a group probably need to figure out what it really means.
About all it means to me is, as long as he's not undermining the faith, they'll back him up (which I'd say NPC clerics would do for any cleric anyway), and maybe he gets a room in the temple with small storage.
-
@Mr-Moloch OC as a Tymoran would be a massive deal given the standing of the faith in the city. When I was OC with my Cyricist it was done so the law basically can't touch you, it was great.
I could see the Church making him some sort of official position to make the trial thing go away, they "punish" him in house, which just means have a party with a load of wine and hookers and laugh at the Helmites.
I'd rather he did more than "go and look for stuff from DM events" honestly.
Nothing about what he does is particularly Tymoran rather than him putting "FOR LUCK" and "BE BOLD" at the end of sendings and asking the Tymoran NPCs for help / clues about DM plots. He's even started using a spear instead of the shuriken because they were shit.
-
@folklore He's literally pushing plots and stories, which is what we ask players to do. He doesn't care if a DM shows up, he's certainly happy when they do - but this is what his play style is. He seems to prefer exploration to questing.
But what would people like to see? Because it seems a majority disagree that the player doing the most to push plots and story lines and include a lot of players in them by running events when no DMs are on isn't actually doing much; and yeah, that's some annoyance I admit because as much as I think players should have to do something concrete to get applications and the rest of the team goes "Oh he's doing a lot" but can't point to anything - here I am pointing to a bunch of stuff he's clearly doing and getting told its not enough. I find it really ironic.
-
@Mr-Moloch He's chasing after DM plots, that's not "pushing stories" in my view. Anyone can go and try and "solve" DM plots, nothing interesting about that at all.
If we want to dumb down rewarding people for doing that then sure, he should be King of Arabel by the end of next week.
I maintain he's done nothing Tymoran in the slightest. Ethika has held at least two sermons and converted another PC, we should be discussing OC for him first out of anyone.
-
@folklore He demonstrably is doing stuff. His sermon isn't a speech, its taking people hunting for treasure using maps blessed by Tymora. You don't like it, that's fair - but its not nothing. I prefer it over a sermon honestly and it had 5 people logged in with him doing stuff for an hour and having fun. That's 100% what we should be rewarding.
The guy is not creative, I concede that. He's still 100% the strongest pusher of stories and making an effort to involve people in the stories we're trying to tell. If he doesn't do enough - NO ONE else is.
-
@Mr-Moloch He's the most public with going and looking to solve DM plots, doing the same thing over and over with stubborn simplemindedness sure
Saying he's the 100% "strongest pusher of stories" is your opinion and one I disagree with. The first chance he got to push an actual story - involving the trial, he said he's not going and then asked an NPC for help!
-
@folklore Cool, we disagree. ;) I'm amazed since that never happens. ;)
But seriously, what would you like to see? Because at the bare minimum, he should get told some ideas to pursue beyond all that he's already doing.
Normally, I'd say "go do some treasure hunts with players to explore the server" and "take people to do some quests that push forward plots and storylines" -- but he's doing exactly that, so what more would we like to see?
-
@Mr-Moloch Gambling events, drumming up ways to increase funding for the church, seeking to outlaw the Beshaban faith / conflicting with Cass Cartier, starting his own Tymoran Militia to work against the crooked Justiciars, sermons (I like a sermon as it means you have to be creative) to try and rally support against the crooked Justiciars, trying to resurrect Daramos.
Initiative and creativity rather than, as I said, bloodhounding trying to solve DM plots and going to NPCs for help.
-
You both are right imo.
I would suggest a compromise step to give him some junior authority and some loot with the encouragement to OC later.
Reward what he is doing but not overkill until we can agree on more IG shenanigans from him.
-
@Salem I'm fine with that too. I want to reward effort, and use that reward to encourage the next steps that will be cool to take.
-
Yeah, I think official clergy may be too large of a reward. I don't think anyone claims he's not doing anything, I think people are just disagreeing on the specifics of what kinds of "things" should gain what level of reward- and also, what level of reward official clergy actually is.
Give him a cool custom item that spawns 50 freaking sweet shurikens once per rest or something

nice idea

In the last week, he's done 2 or 3 sermons, hosted a contest etc.
He's also whinged a bit about PvP with Ethika during the trial.
I still feel Verk is a strange duck, who tries to do everything we ask without actually understand what we're asking.
But if we give him an item what?
Has he pushed enough to be considered "official clergy"? Do we want that, considering his form of PvP seems to be "ban people from the city" and "beg someone else to PvP them for me".
If we give official clergy, we need to be a bit clearer as to what it is because folks seem to run through "you are free to do anything and I was official Cyric clergy to 'your high priest will back you up unless you're an idiot'". And that probably needs a clearer ground and stance from us, especially with the way the "law book" is written.

He was also worried we'd taken his hesitance as a black mark against him. Honestly, I wouldn't want to pvp Ethika either. Guy is usually fun, but also sometimes insane.
-
Yeah, needs more than an item now really.
-
Verk needs to recognize it's not his place to police other Players over OOC things (He also does it to DMs whenever he thinks something is too strong), the DM team is here for that.
It takes about 2 seconds to scroll through DM forums to see that he also has done some shitty things, gotten his vault wiped in the past, etc.His knee jerk reaction to anyone going against him IC is to ban them, or exile them. If another player insults his PC he immediately wonders if he should FD them if they don't stop insulting him.
Honestly, would have liked to see him take a different approach but during the trial by combat after he loses he just goes into his sore loser mode. Ethika didn't fight him, he nominated another player to take the role instead and I thought it was a nice step. Meanwhile in verk's PM's to you he's complaining about Ethika FDing him, when at the same time he's asking us to hold him back from FD'ing Draco in his own plot ticket.
From an IC perspective, he's just immediately reverted back to the same stuff he did on gregor. Why would the tymoran church promote him for that?
Give him a piece of loot from Arturo Rallyhorn, but also tell him to stop embarrasing the church
