    Character Name(s): Rastaban, Claus Nightingale

    Player(s): Petey512, Unfie

Applying For: Promotion to Magus and Tower Guard, respectively.

Brief Bio: Claus and Rastaban banded together in the with the tower; drawn to each other due to a common interest in the spiritual aspect of necromancy. Together they work towards unlocking the secrets of life, death, the space in between the two, and finally the immortal soul. To them, their grand design is great enough that it merits sacrifice no matter the cost to themselves, or others.

Ultimate Goal: To achieve “The True Death,” and retain agency in the fugue so they might sunder the wall of the faithless and free mortalkind from the yolk of the gods.

    Realistic Goals:

To alienate and ultimately victimize clerics (NPCs and PCs alike,) by constructing a narrative that the god's holy chosen are little more than selfish slavedrivers who are ultimately out for themselves. This would be achieved by exploiting their foibles, planting false evidence, and ousting them for their more problematic beliefs. This would culminate in finally sacrificing them in a necromantic ritual as a means of discovering “The True Death,” that Rastaban believes in, while similarly harvesting their life essence to repair Vadim's Surge, (The phylactery we've recovered,) to help Claus achieve lichdome himself. It would be interesting to encourage other players to try and track down the serial killer responsible, (us,) though with current numbers it may be obvious. Thus, we'd like to frame it like it's a growing god-hating cult in the region, which is something Rastaban would legitimately like to form.

To lead adventurers and fellow members of the tower on expeditions to places of magical intrigue so they might discover rare reagents, artifacts, and contact with wanted criminal necromancers that they might forge ties with.

To investigate Deadwell even further, discover it's dark origins, and establish a research camp for the Tower there to ultimately be used as a base of operations for our necromantic designs. (I.E. achieving True Death.)

To convert the vampire threat into a vampire resource by killing the pale man and taking his place as a true vampire. From there Rastaban would attempt to unite the vampires under his philosophy, and wage war on all religions, while handpicking new vampire thralls among the playerbase, (on a case-by-case basis, obviously referring to the DM team before making intentions known to said player.)

To expand the Tower's influence by playing the various factions of the city against eachother. Their movements in this matter will be rather ham-fisted, even obvious, though hopefully expertly executed.

I'd like the Tower to eventually be viewed as Arabel's “secret police,” with Claus and Rastaban tracking down dissenters of Gondegal's reign and capturing them to be used for their own nefarious research.

    What we've done so far:

Killed two war wizards, one a werewolf, the other nearly a lich.
Led an expedition in the helmlands, and protected the Tower's outpost there from an intense fire elemental attack.

Bolstered the tower's reputation by winning the battle royale through the combination of Rastaban's might and Claus's magic.

Established a connection with the vampires of Arabel by offering Rastaban up as a thrall to save the lives of two others; Grol the Necromancer, and a paladin of the true sun whose name I forgot :(

Assisted House Vaylan with the duergar threat, ultimately defeating them in their own forest camp, and I believe sort of stealing the show at the end. (Claus and Rastaban really shined here I thought, Combust may be a better person to ask though. I'm biased.)

Forced Ivo into conducting a divine ritual to scry out the location of the Pale Man, in so doing taking permanent damage to bypass the Pale Man's wards, and in turn learning a great deal of the Pale Man's plans, (we think we have it figured out, but I wanna surprise Salem.)

And honestly probably some more that I'm forgetting or just wasn't present for when Unfie was. The last three weeks have been crazy and chock-full of dm attention. Thank you guys so much! We've had so much fun.

Since they are a team like a Thayan Knight/Magus, I found 1 app most pleasing

Openly runs around saying he's a vampire thrall apparently.

Nope. Tower would not reward something that is liable to their reputation.

I had a really good RP session with Rastaban yesterday. He never mentioned "thrall" or "vampire" only that he had convinced Ivo to do a ritual so that he could learn what was needed to know in order to save the world sort of thing.

My interactions with Claus have been limited.

They are being incredibly openly evil without repurcussion. They are making conflict and driving the Ghost plot very well. They have been very creative with their rituals and have been actively trying to solve the plot.

Maybe consider a "promotion" with the vampires instead, and have the Tower give them an ultimatum. Stop messing with the Tower reputation or be kicked out.

Give them a criminal bounty if they choose to fully ally with the vampires.

Promoting them means the tower tacitly approves of their openly evil shenanigans, really.

I'm inclined to agree with Spiffy.

They should be given the ultimatum. Either they advance in Tower and stay there, or they abandon, get criminal warrants out on them and advance with vampires.

I get the feeling they would accept the vampiredom honestly.

And this is while the Crimson Guard and Hunter's Union are actively talking to the vampires opposing Pale Man and crew. This is going to be very interesting!

So I'm voting YES, but WITH SPECIAL CAVEATS that they would be given the choice of Tower or Pale Man Vampries.

But they cannot play as vampires. The race does not exist for PCs to play. Becoming a vampire would result in retirement of the PCs.

They don't have to become the vampire subrace. Either make them thralls or simply make them on the same team as the vampires (still being human but with the loot equivalent of Tower promotion). And criminal warrants because they would now have allies and power to FD.

I feel like now is the time they need to choose which side to full embrace. Hellz (Ivo) will definitely stay with the Tower. Claus and Rastaban will likely choose to abandon Tower and ally with Pale Man.

Basically, the Tower PCs will end up splitting making this conflict more complex!

Just curious, since the Tower is allowed to do whatever really. Is the issue with the vamp that they are thralls to an outside being, rather than Raubagaush?

I think it's that and the fact that vampires are well known for drinking the blood of the innocent rather indiscriminately. They're abominations and would bring down unholy fury from the True Sun and any other non-evil gods' clergy.

They are protected from all magical crimes. That said, they are very image conscious and people going around serving demonic overlords and vampires don't really cut a proper image for the Tower.

                              From the faction insight post

...The Tower wields incredible IC power but there are extreme IC consequences for failure or embarrassment. Think what would happen if you blended the War Wizards with the Red Wizards of Thay and sprinkled in a dose of the old Mage Guild's notable members.

So once the secret is out Raubagaush (or a High Mage more likely) would move to wipe out the problem. Either make a spectacle of it for PR or just vanish with no ties or information.

                                        No.

He's already gone too far imo for the tower to tolerate. He should be made an example of.

                                        • Attempted assassination -use another PC if possible
                                        • Tossed out of the tower forcing him to more closely ally with the Vamp or find other allies.

No way the tower would sanction this guy for promotion.
