i have just done this quest for the first time and have found it to be extremely difficult!

the mobs have ab of +9 or +10, regularly do more than 10 damage, with x3 crit multipliers.

i went into the quest and used consumables to buff ac/ab/dam but found the quest too difficult, despite using ccw potions alongside the wisdom, dex, str, con, aid, bless buffs used. (ac was 21)

Having died from 6th level(just) down to 4th with two deaths where i was trying to compete, i ended up giving up and just accepting losing xp down to 4000 just to be able to complete the quest.

I would suggest that the strength of the mobs be looked at
