Shambling mounds not giving XP

Was in the Starflow river zone and ran into some. Killing them didn't give XP, while everything else in the area did.

What was your level? If you are level 8+ you dont gain XP from kills.
Was a DM possessing it when it was killed? That will often prevent XP from happening.
What else spawned in the area that DID give XP?

Shambling Mounds are CR6 for XP calculations.

So many factors that I cant pinpoint the issue without more input.

I was lvl 8 at the time so that must have been it.

but they also didn't give you any exp when you respawned at lvl 6. i think that's the issue, they are quite hard to fight

Looking at the build.
Not sure I see where the difficulty lies. They only have 8 AC and 75 HP. Will talk with others and post here when a decision is reached.

Looking at it further, seems this was DM spice using the summoned shambling mound rather than the CARES spawn, hence, no XP from killing summons.
