Following on from the conversation yesterday on Discord, currently the Dwarves have access to the Manticore basement as a legacy reward to Spiffy when he was actively pushing things in December.

I am proposing we “change the locks” and give access to Corianne and her budding group of thieves.

She was recently caught, or is suspect at least, in the theft of a noble house in an event Sooth and I ran around the Rogue Creator collecting rare components.

They have a history of trying to involve people, having had multiple factions based around the character with a decent membership.

Yes, they’re awkward to deal with and risk averse, but they try, I think we should be in the business of giving people opportunities and facilitating them to grow and develop.

I’m proposing we take the keys off the dwarves, who aren’t doing anything with it, and taking a chance on Corianne, with a view to her embracing more criminality.

Do nothing character, I don't see why we should give them a cool perk like this.

You said yourself she was terrible on the quest, and is known for having a shop and that's it - you might as well give it to Jacob, same level.

Happy to take it off the dwarves and work out something else for her if you really want to give her a nudge with something else.

Can we compromise the yes and no votes here?

What if we give it to her, but give her a few specific and clear things to do in game to help her develop?

The player does try to do things in game and get people involved, albeit in a more melodramatic roleplay style than I personally like. And they are involving players, but maybe can be encouraged to do better with this carrot.

What would you like to see them do Folklore?

If you guys think it will produce an amazing turnaround in approach from the player then I will change my vote to yes.

Trust me, I want to be proven wrong with my views as I want people IG creating awesome. My point was they have been given tools in the past and done zip with them, so I just don't see this being any different.

Well, she needs some goals to pursue in game. That's where we help, won't be a magical turnaround for sure.

But remember, players got trained that unless you do what the DM wants, you don't get anything. That's set some folks into bad habits of hanging on the edge rather than going for glory. I think we can also help encourage people to understand what gets our attention.

All good stuff, but the player is also very "tricky" to deal with OOC on top of it all and isn't open to any sort of two way discussion about anything - let alone any sort of coaching or directional prodding.

More than happy to do all of what you've said above - but I fear you / we are focusing on absolutely the wrong person to try and do this with.

I don’t have particularly high hopes for this myself, but the fact they do a lot of things we like in terms of player involvement and pushing their own story independently means something I feel. Despite the content maybe not being to our tastes.

And while they don’t particularly tick the sort of boxes I personally look for, we as DMs we should try and accommodate all styles. Burton has their niche. Has their crowd.

I’m willing to try with them, use this as a springboard to help them with some direction and purpose. Might it blow up in our faces? Decent chance. But our job should be to nudge and encourage and develop our player base.

Were this to go anywhere, I’d use the Dwarves as a cautionary tale to let them know it can be taken away for inactivity, or should they fumble the opportunity. ”We don’t rent this basement out to just anyone, we can get gold from any Tom, Dick or Harry, if you’re working out of here, you best be working.” etc.

                    abstaining from the vote

the player has been entirely too confrontational with me of late to have a positive hope for any change

however, i wont stand in the way if the Team wishes to move forward. hopefully some (more) gentle nudging wont cause another outburst and we'll see some proactive moves

Think this has moved on in a different direction. Doesn't seem like a goer from where we are now? Moved my vote to a no. Any other comments?
