Discussion: Necromancers in the City
-
Nicholas can correct me if I am wrong, the document Sara is referring to is the book of necromantic practices I found. It details how to prepare bodies for animation, but does not include the spells themselves. It does mention onyx several times.

That sounds right. I didn't have a chance to read it thoroughly; if it provides significant details, it may give us more to investigate. Hunting down these necromancers does seem more expedient than legislating (and then somehow enforcing), temporary laws.
Thinking about it: I do recall, weeks past, I went with an adventurer (Rismente also came along) who was looking for large a quantity of onyx. Said it was for a ward for the city, but that seems unlikely looking back on it (maybe a ward to protect against necromancy, but that's a reach). The organizer was someone named, D something? Dio? Something like that.

@Orin1234 said in Report from the Luck Bringer:
Additional report.Rot.
-
Wanted by the High Priestess of Tymora
-
Zurask of the Rot, dangerous priest who can summon powerful undead such as giants.
-
Will attack those seeking to cleanse the land and protect Arabel, highly dangerous
-
Uses maggots and.. muck to infect his victims. Agonizing pain
-
May have left undead in the Gnoll Pass to prey onto travelers
-
Most of the undead were cleared in Gnoll Pass, no note found

I witnessed the undead in Gnoll Pass with the Luckbringer. We didn't find anything identifiable, but the area was utterly devastated. Dozens on dozens of undead in varying shapes - human, gnoll, orc. Unpleasant. Can't confirm it was the Rot Priest, but he did make a sending saying something about how there was nothing to cleanse to the north, except evidence of his god's power? May or may not be related to the onyx discussion, but given the sheer number of undead involved it seems likely.

I tracked that shipment and know where and how it is being used. But yes, that is the sort of thing we should continue to monitor for.

Not exactly pertinent to onyx ban, but definitely germane to this discussion as a whole.

[a page is posted from an old book]
This is a first hand recording of a Paladin hunting down local necromancers around Arabel. it would seem, he has found the Light.

That is a part of a very famous book. I suspect certain scholars and the library would be interested in obtaining any further pieces you discover.
It's not impossible but I doubt they were actually around Arabel in that tale it tells, and certainly not recently.

I'll look into retrieving more.

I have part of a book for you, Nicholas.

I'll compile whatever scraps we can find into a novella to keep on hand. Perhaps it will teach us of other nefarious reagents.
Once all the pieces we can muster are together, we will donate it on behalf of the council to the Arabel library.
Are there any objections to this?
